The uniqueness of friendship

Friendship image“A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” In a culture where the quantity of online Facebook “friends” is often taken as a measure of a person’s popularity, these words of wisdom from Solomon in Proverbs 18:24, are a timely reminder that quality of friendship is way more important than quantity.  There is a certain type of friend who is actually

Love is an Orientation - book review

“Love is an Orientation” is an attractive and intriguing title for a book that directly addresses issues of sexual orientation and the church’s response in the current culture and climate. Andrew Marin (http://www.themarinfoundation.org) expresses the hope that the book will “elevate the conversation” between the church and the GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender) community, and I certainly think it does just what it says “on the tin”.

Open letter to the Church of Scotland

In May 2009, the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland upheld the decision of one of its Presbyteries to proceed with the induction of a minister who is living in a same sex partnership. As a result of the controversy surrounding this decision, the General Assembly is putting together a consultation document around the matter of ordination of minister in practising homosexual relationships. As part of this consultation, they wrote to TfT to ask our view on the matter. The response below is from one of our staff on behalf of TfT.

Research on sexuality amongst young religious adults

The University of Nottingham has recently started a 2-year government-funded study into religion and sexuality amongst young adults. Although TfT is not at all involved in this research, we are happy to point others towards it, as we always support the search for truth.

They are particularly looking for 18-25 year olds. If you are interested, or want to complete their questionnaire, please visit their website: http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/sociology/rys/index.php

Code of Confidentiality

Confidentiality within an organisation such as TfT is of paramount importance. Many who make contact with us have never before talked with anyone concerning issues related to their sexuality, or the sexuality of those close to them. It can take a great deal of courage for people to take the first step in opening up to someone. It is an immense privilege to be entrusted with such personal disclosures and it is essential that all in TfT do not abuse this trust.

New TfT Director

True freedom Trust (TfT) has appointed a new Director, Jonathan Berry, to succeed Martin Hallett. Martin co-founded TfT in 1977 and has served as TfT Director for thirty-two years.

Jonathan, aged 41, was converted out of a long-term gay relationship aged 24 and, after training at Bible College, served as the pastor of a church in East London for ten years. His passion is for seeing lives transformed by the power of God's Word and he looks forward to leading the ministry forward and building on the excellent foundation laid by Martin.
